WidgetBucks Updates Policy on Non-English Language Sites

As we've continued to evaluate impression, click and conversion data during WidgetBucks' first 3+ weeks, we've observed that a majority of non-English language sites are delivering a consistently low conversion rate. With our merchants and advertisers predominantly based in the U.S., this is not a surprising phenomenon. And as an advertising network, we have a responsibility to our merchants to deliver quality traffic that has the highest likelihood of conversion to sale.

As a result, we've updated our program policies to no longer approve or accept non-English language sites into the WidgetBucks ad network. See our Program Policies here.

This policy change enables us to consistently provide high-quality clicks and traffic to our merchants, and in turn, continue offering our competitive revenue-per-click (RPC) to our publishers.

Thank you for your continued efforts and input.

- Dean

Hi

What about the Present Site Which is Non English
what will you do with them?

diego said...

hey, maybe you should make some exceptions, for example for spanish gadget sites, they might convert more!

My page converted a lot. Just because is spanish you banned it. I think that's not fair, we could use some bucks, you know. My page had VERY HIGH convertion rates.

I think you'll find that WB think about 'conversion' differently to us as publishers. It might be converting for you guys in getting clicks - but is it converting for the advertisers (as in leading to sales).

This does suck and hurt for non english sites - but I guess they have to find a way to balance the needs of advertisers too.

I tried to tell people who don't read Terms and Conditions that they are not allowed to place WB on other language site but it seemed they don't listen. I hope they will do something before their account suspended.

How about the post by Shoemoney saying that Google banned WidgetBucks? I think it should be clearer

Yeah. I have an English site, but it also offers to users the same pages in several languages. Had to write a script to remove WidgetBucks from those pages.
Better late than never, I guess.

P.s. The Google ban was pretty much predictable, as the same thing happened to Text-Link-Ads.

I have a friend that has an english site, but his traffic is not US based..is he allowed to join?

Another thing is about the people that joined you when non-english sites were accepted. They earned some money, and probably deleted other ads to show yours.
So now, that you decided not to accept them any more...you just stabbed them in the heart... as those people worked for you, trying to make some money...and their work is not rewarded... That's not moral or ethical...as they could be making money from other programs... and the time is lost now...

Another thing would be that you guys said this are PPC ads...not CPA ads,so banning people with low conversions denies that rule...and looks like you pay CPA...not PPC...

Hi i just want to ask if the money i already won in a non english site is goin to be paid to me.

And qhy in the update email you didn't said nothing about this issue.. i think non english speaking people at least deserve to know that they are banned from WB, and if they put your ads they are actually doing something non permited by your policies.

i expect that you answer this question, cuz your update mail say that if i have a question i should ask it in the blog.

kind regards

Spanish language sites must be accepted. Spanish is the mother/second tongue of 45 million people in the U.S. Latinamerica speaks Spanish too. You get a lot of quality traffic from them. Latinos understands English too and they watch ads in English. Many advertisers in the US put ads in Spanish.

Hi, I have just registered and when I read this Blog was a surprise for me. Why let you non-English sites to register to your program if you don´t accept them?

I have many other English ads on my site and none of them block me for being non-English or non from US like you need. I'm not in US but I still can buy things there. I don´t understand your policy.

Unknown said...

Non-english oriented sites don´t generate "quality" traffic?... well, fuck you very much then! plain and simple!. You should take responsability for all the non-english people who "worked" for you (and even removed their original ads and sponsors for you guys). But hey!, that was to be expected from a red-neck ran business...We´ll start a site with a list of Widgetbucks enabled webs, so they won´t get a single "non-english" visit, ergo, not a single non-english generated click, how´s that sound?

Vayanse a la mierda etnofóbicos.(Don´t speak spanish?, then get a dick-tionary)

Dean said in another post that WB have reached 25 million impressions in 7 days.So even 10% click ratio u take, it will be 25,00,000 clicks.Minimal pay for click is $0.11 for us.So if the ad people are giving them $.50 for a click,WB will be getting $12,50,000 in a week which is a very good/huge amount for any company,in which $2,75,000 belongs to us.Also ther is no gurantee for any payout. It is given only after 45 days.So with bank interest for 45 days the $2,75,000 will be double in 45 days time.
WB is getting this much of money because of our effort and our time,so there lies responsibility for WB to ensure gurentee for this $2,75,000 to be paid to us, since we people live in some other country we cannot fight for justice in US.

So.......?? Any response from Dean??

Yeah what about the non-english sites that are already using your system and earned money. Will you pay them or are you planning to ban all non-english users without payments? We used your system for 1 month. I checked your terms before I register and I didn't see anything about non-english sites. And now you decided to ban all of the non-english users after you make money of them? That's not fair and that will effect your program's prestige negatively for sure. Inform us about the payments.

so... the second most used language in the world got banned here?? that really sucks... plus... more than the 80% of spanish internet users understand english too. Lets be real... any site that doesn't includes spanish as an option to surf their pages are NOT really internet pages... they are just 'my town homepage'... 'my college mates' and 'my fucking yearbook... prom night' sites. sites like these cannot be taken seriously. and also... wb cannot be taken seriously... just for hommies. in this world... you dont really exist unless you speak this 2 languages... english its NOT the mother-tongue of the world... and when someone REALLY wants to get something international... they must include other languages... so why don't you bunch of suckers just put a huge ad saying ONLY FOR US... what's next?? people from germany dont buy your products... so lets ban 'english' sites from germany... and france... and italy... do it right now... ONLY FOR THE U.S.

I could write it down in spanish... but of course you wouldn't understand... bunch of cowboys... can't deal with two languages on your brain?? I can.

To respected dean ( widgetbucks team),

My account suspension is definately an error because more than 38 $ had already been finalised for the previous month and in the present month there were hardly more than 1.29$ among these amounts none of the clicks were made by me nor i have altered the widgetbucks code.None of the terms and conditions were violeted by me.I would like to also inform widgetbucks that there were hardly any clicks in the past 9-10 days. Then how can my account get suspended? If widgetbucks wishes I shall delete all widgets from my site and continue to earn from my referrals. But I would like to repeat once more that the suspension of my account is definately an error as there were hardly any clicks in past few days and the previous month's earnings were finalised I even did not get warnings from widgetbucks.Reinstall my account as soon as possible.reply me as soon as possible my WB account is ankil19@hotmail.com . I was also planning to delete widgets from my site but I did not know that what happens to the amount after the widgets get deleted. As the reason of low traffic site I had taken the permission from WB that I can place ads on low traffic site
There is also the possibility of someone else clicking violently on my ads but in these case I am ready to delete the widgets and continue to earn from referrals.I agree that I had clicked twice When I had placed widgets on my site on october 10 as it was new for me & to test whether widgets are working But after that I have never clicked it for myself.I am writing here as the customer care centre takes time to reply to our queries. You can contact me on above given E mail

i got the email the other day that youhave corrected the error which slows down the site/page and was also advised to collect the fresh widgets
but the problem still persists

please let me know via email

Can I use both WidgetBucks and Chitika's eMinimall service together...or does it violates any of your program policies..

I think we are complaining for nothing...
When I signed up with widgetbucks this "non-english" term wasn't there, and now because I've JUST PLACED an ad on a non-english site that doesn't generate revenue, or clicks I've got suspended NOW.
Widgetbucks should email all he's users when their TOS are changed, not all users read their TOS everyday... lol.
So if I remove the ads from the non-english website will i get my account back ?
All my money earned until now are gone?
Who knows when some of us will get an answer...

onesecond said...

I got suspended which the same reasons, non-english site. Please, I don't put any ads on non-english site. Now I can't log in to my account, and all my earning from october has gone.

Widget Hater said...

Do you have any plans to answer the question about earnings from non-english sites that were working before your change in the terms and conditions.

It seems very unfair that everyone who had widgets on non-english sites have now lost all their income.

Also, why, in my case, once I deleted the widget that I had on a non-english site, did all my other widgets and earnings disappear ??

Is that my punishment for using a widget on a non-english site before you changed your terms and conditions ?? Shouldnt this change have been mentioned to us all prior to us having our accounts suspended and banned, with a complete loss of all our earnings.

Garcya said...

They are over their heads with this... to many people complains about this suspension.
It's not fair and right. When you do a major change in your TOS involving account suspension you MUST inform ALL your users by sending an automated email / mass email, etc "Please read our TOS, they are changed" or whatever.
Am I right or not ? We are "obligated" to read the TOS when we sign up, and in that time we didn't violated ANY of your rules. So now you pop-up a new rule and ban a lot of people, simple for you, but we put work in advertising and made you nice bucks, we want our share.

I have also had a lot of money on my account and today I have received an e-mail being told that it was suspended.

You should give us at least those money that we have earnt...

Please answer us. Thank you.

I had also ~600$ on October and ~500$ for this month - November...

I have signed-up with the site, they reviewed and approved it and nothing was wrong... But today I have received an e-mail stating that my site is NON-ENGLISH so they suspended my account.

I mention that when I have signed-up there was nothing in their Terms & Policies to specificy that NON-ENGLISH sites are not allowed. They have modified and added this item one week ago I think... And I haven't received any warning or something like that.

We should do something really quick because Widgetbucks will earn very very much money from us.
Just think about this... If we let this happen anyone can start their own site and claim they are an ad agency, offer a big CPC and in the end suspend most of the accounts... What do you think about this?

Hi to all you other guys that have non-english language sites.
For over a month I've been realy excited about widgetbucks. Every day I spent several hours in posting widgets, or making attempts to get referrals. I managed to get 6 referrals and put widgets on over 10 different sites. I intended to put widgets on over 40 other non-english sites until now - by accident I found out that that accounts which post adds on non-english sites are being banned! This is really unpleasant and confusing. I don't know what to do. Should I remove widgets from my sites or wait until WB makes a clear statement and gives an advice for us non-english publishers what to do? Either way 1 month of work will get wasted and that is really unfair because WB made money from our sites. I hope that WB team takes a decision that's best for both sites and in my opinion it is not to ban non-english sites but to reevaluate the PPC price or something like this.

I was also stunned to see my account suspended without any warnings.
I also joined like many of you and also read the Terms of conditions.
Its not fair to just ban and run away with money that we earned.
We didn't cheat..
I think widgetbucks should return the money--otherwise widgetbucks will shut down.
Trust me--widgetbucks will start getting fradulent clicks.
--And --oh yes my site was in English and they said it wasn't--

Bottom line is that they should pay all of those (who signed up before this new rule got into effect).
