WidgetBucks Adds New Creative for Publishers

WidgetBucks has rolled out a new ad widget style, giving publishers two display options for each of the eight sizes offered. The new ads are noted with a "B" (for "B Series") in the pull-down menu of the "Customize Your Widget" page, where publishers can also see a preview before selecting with option to choose.

Updated/Corrected Details: Two "B" widgets (300x250 and 660x330) offer search boxes within them, while one "C Series" widget -- the 300x250 medium rectangle ad -- provides a simple top 10 product list without product images and reviews. Two examples of the new styles are sprinkled throughout this blog, and one static example is placed to the right.

One modification not previously highlighted here is the ability to adjust the product rotation interval, allowing publishers to vary the pace by which products are displayed in their widgets. The default rotation is 3 seconds, but can be set anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds per item.

When it comes to popular categories of WidgetBucks widgets, the top five are MP3 Players, Laptops, Game Consoles, Flat Panel Televisions and Cell Phones, respectively. And when it comes to ad sizes, here are the top four (in order, total units used): 160x600 wide skyscraper, 728x90 leaderboard, 300x250 medium rectangle, and 468x60 full banner.

After refusing to answer any of our questions, do you really think you deserve our vote?
i'll vote for your competition, you don't deserve to win...

Unknown said...

yup.. thats is true... you deserve nothing... you change everything...your ads sucks

Can someone from Widget Bucks please answer these concerns in comments above. If these are true than I might rethink my decision to use widget bucks and worse, stop suggesting it to others.

Dean Jutilla said...

@jovem: please contact me directly with your account email and i'll happily look into it. dean [at] mpire [dot] com thanks.

@the and joshua: you may not feel WB deserves your vote -- and that's fine -- you certainly have a right to your opinion. what i can respond to (Scotty) is that every day in our first few months we've worked to improve our network -- so apologies if it doesn't meet your standards. we certainly would like you to continue using our service, but frankly, no one is forcing you to do so. and yes, we've had to make some changes since we started -- many of which have been to maintain our network quality and manage unvalued traffic by merchants. have we addressed those concerns? yep. have we paid on time? yep (earlier in fact). have we listened to and made appropriate changes to our network, per publishers' constructive comments. yep. But we have lots of work to do. Happy holidays, folks. Dean

@teamWB Before anything, seeing a response from you saying you are willing to take complaints and try to resolve them is a relief. I'll continue to use WB and suggest others to use them and if someone asks whether you responds to queries, I'll say yes you do.

Dean Jutilla said...

Thanks for the response, Scotty. Again, any issues, concerns, complaints, even suggestions, you can feel free to send my way at dean [at] mpire [dot] com. -- Dean

To everyone whining:

Ask people that were in the early public stages of AdSense, Adbrite and Doubleclick how it was, then bitch if you think that they were run better!

The entire ad-network is months old and I personally expect them to have time to iron out kinks and hire staff!

Daniel Larsson said...

Its also fun that half of all the complaints are from publishers that have Thai/Indian/Pakistani and blogs in NON-English languages have you even read the emails and TOS?

Okay, I love the look of the new widgets. However, there is a pretty big rendering issue with them under IE7 (Firefox appears fine). I haven't tested further, but with the 160x600 B, beneath the ad box is a large blank area; Within this area is nothing except a rapidly-increasing number displayed; It is clearly the timer on when to change the products; It disappears when you mouseover the widget, but otherwise keeps on cycling. This white box takes up a lot of real estate and is really not worth the benefit until has been corrected.

Dean, you are a very patient person, lol. I know your holding back, and that's good business, so..

Attention, attention, is everybody listening?

@the, what was the question?
@joshua, what happened?
@Scotty what comments?

Oh, Andrew, I noticed the same problem with the new ad as soon as I opend the site. I use Mozilla Firefox, not really an IE fan, maybe someone else can check. But at least I know now how Widget Bucks animates there Flash content. Careful, Google sits and watches.

Dean Jutilla said...

@daniel_larsson: thanks for your continued support and sense of perspective. very refreshing. -Dean

@andrew & tonysage: I'll definitely have our QA guys look into this - thanks for the headsup. Before we roll anything out it does go through extensive browser testing, but may have experienced a problem once pushed live. Patiently, Dean ;-)

I much prefer the B-style widgets to the old widgets, but I wish they worked. Clearly they are not ready to be displayed on webpages. Only the Square Pop-up 250x250 size is working correctly. Can you please let us know when they will be functioning correctly. I like the B style much better and would like to change all of my widgets to that style, but I can't until you get them working correctly.

Dean Jutilla said...

RE: Issue with B Series widgets: Please try clearing your cache in whichever browser you are currently seeing issue. In some early testing I remember seeing that issue in FireFox and clearing cache solved it immediately. Hope this helps. - Dean

Does that mean that visitors to my site that have not cleared their cache will have the same display problems? If so, why would I change the widgets and screw up the display to my repeat visitors?

Tony Sage said...

Put up a notice for visitors to clear their cookies. Plus when you change the widget it should refresh the browsers of all your visitors automatically, Flash is good like that. Typically if a visitor never closes their browser, then the old cookie will still be in the cach, thus showing old unchanged content. Just tell them to restart their browser, or make a notice about it on your site. At least if you know and tell them, it won't look like your bad because your on top of your business.

onward upward

Hey,
Just wanted to tell you guys, after reading all the comments from those compliants, that you're on the right way. Your ads system is really creative, but all we as your publishers feel that you're still working on it. That's not a problem I think. Everyone, who has created any worth product or service, knows from his own experience how hard it sometimes can be to get this product work well.
Good luck to widgetbucks, to its publishers and advertisers!

@TeamWB - Hi..I have a problem and I hope that you will help me. I use the normal 300x250 ad. the problem is that I can not see the ad in Firefox and Opera. The ads appear only in IE. I have clear the cache and remove all cookies. But nothing happened!! Is it possible to resolve this problem?? It's important for me because a lot of my visitors use Firefox..

Widgetbucks,

It seems my reporting data is not working. It says the only reports that I have are delayed and all I have are details up to the 26th of december. Any reason as to why?

Anonymous said...

I've been unable to send the following e-mail through the support system because when registering it claims I already have an account but then when requesting a new password with the same e-mail address, it claims that it does not exist. So for that reason, I'm leaving it as a comment. Please don't leave me standing in the cold - I'm getting more worried about your service each day.

Hello

12/26/07 41,169 $9.91
12/27/07 48,876 $0.00
12/28/07 43,434 $0.00

This has been going on a few days now, I do not understand what's wrong with the impression reporting. Could you please give your users a bit more information than "Impressions/Clicks reporting currently delayed." - Thanks.

Also, I recently had a new password sent to me.. but have no idea why.

Thanks
